Angel Watches Over Child's Grave

I was struck by the quiet serenity of this young child's grave in the Roman Catholic cemetery in Bath today. An angel can can be seen atop the the gravestone, watching over this young child's grave in perpituity. At the foot of the grave, a small toy is perched in company for young Sienna. I found the whole scene very, very moving and am still affected by my visit.

  1. Looks like it was a still born, with only one date. I think people in general don't understand how hard this is one people and how these "children" live on and grow up in the parents hearts......today she would have been..etc

  2. That little stuffed animal (elephant?) is too much with his sad black eyes and "Forever" behind him... I can understand your emotion... over before it started, this life. We are so very lucky to have survived as long as we have, and missed all the traps and illnesses and things that can go so terribly wrong so fast... And as there is no telling what tomorrow may bring, best we enjoy what we can now, and hope our guardian angels are doing their job well, and not off drinking in a pub...

  3. Ohhh... how much sorrow must be contained in the fibres of that little elephant...?

  4. Children's graves are so poignant, heartbreaking, especially with a little toy on it. This elephant's eyes are so empathetic.

  5. Yes, it is a heartbreaking image. How parents can withstand such a cruel blow is beyond me. I feel I would die of grief as well.
