Not the Best Looking in the Land?

There is something about this family group that makes me uneasy. I was first reminded of an old black and white sitcom - The Munsters, but then thought there was no comedy in this scene. The father has an extraordinary expression on his face and the heads of the boy and girl stood to his left seem over large, as do their bodies which seem out of proportion. The child on the left of the photograph seems relatively normal in comparison. What do you make of it?

  1. What an unpleasant occasion for all of them. The furrowed brows of the boys. The confusion. So often these old photos look so strange. I know part of it had to do with having to pose stiff as a board, but you're right, often times there's a slight distortion in bodies and I've come to the conclusion it's due to the fashions. The stiff uncomfortable fashions. The boys have no necks. 20 or 30 years down the line the clothes would have been more relaxed and I don't think they'd have looked so odd. And least that's what I'm thinkin' and I'm a stickin' with it.

  2. The photographer forgot to say "cheese" !

And not a Jack Russell in sight; guess I'll have to go back and admire earlier posts from this week which I missed while working crazy hours...

And funny, while looking for something else in the archives of my blog today, I stumbled on a post from nearly exactly a year ago which is appropriate, one forgets what all one has posted about, it is good to go back and refresh the memory from time to time :

  4. I think dad is cheesed off because the two kids on the right of the photo are not his.

  5. Boy, I have some odd ducks in my old family photos. But I think they look weird mostly because of there sour unsmiling faces.
