Tea in a Wood

Three ladies enjoy a cup of tea from a flask. I wonder if they had sandwiches - cucumber with the crusts cut off - and slices of cake? The small boy behind looks rather bemused. I found this today in another box of old photographs, together with several very large photograph albums. Lovely!

Hot Day in Virginia!

I think if you are going to stage a full scale re-enactment of a Civil War battle in Virginia, then you need to avoid really hot weather. These guys certainly felt the heat. I know I did. I felt so bad after a few hours that I had to lie in the shade, feeling very poorly, and missed the main battle in the afternoon!

Warning sign!

I saw this warning sign at the side of a long, straight stretch of country road in Cumbria recently. It was one of many, but I didn't see one.

Moles on a Wire

Towards the end of a walk in Cumbria, yesterday, I came across this grisly example of the mole-catcher's art. They hang the dead moles on a barbed wire fence to demonstrate to the farmer that they have done their job.

Captain Nuke!

I saw this horrific piece of art in a museum in Washington. It was titled 'Captain Nuke'. Not at all nice, but it was the plinth that worried me most!

Orme Sight

Orme Sight is a very striking sculpture by Thompson Dagnall. It is one of a number of installations to be found along the Sculpture Trail in Beacon Fell Country Park. Originally, you could look through the eye of the statue from behind and see Great Orme on the North Wales coast, provided it was a clear day! Sadly, the hole has been blocked due to vandalism.

On arrival, I found my digital camera had malfunctioned so I decided to try out the camera on my iPhone 4. I was quite pleased with the results, especially as it was such a dull day.

Spot the sea!

The Sea goes out a very long way. Ten minutes of very brisk walking brought us this close! We didn't reach it on this day. Maybe someone borrowed it for a few hours?

A Day by the Sea

Pembrokeshire in May. Bertie runs towards the sea with his piece of seaweed. Sooty stays close to Anne. What a nice day out it was.
