Military Pet Cemetery

I once spent a couple of weeks on assignment at Fort Lewis, Washington. The fort remains one of the largest military bases on American soil. On a rare afternoon off, I discovered the pet cemetery. A peaceful setting for these members of military families. Some of the more modern graves [see the last image] were made from wood and had the details burned on. Unvarnished, I wonder how long they lasted. Taffy, whose grave is pictured below, certainly did a few tours of duty with the McGrew family. I wonder where the family is now?

Pet Cemetery at Christmas

Ever since I published some photographs of decorated graves in an American pet cemetery, I have kept my eyes open for another and this one came along. The Christmas tree on this animals grave is quite spectacular. I find it very moving that the family continues to think of its pet at such a time . . .

Molesworth Pet Cemetery

It has been quite a while since I posted a photograph of the headstones in the Molesworth Pet Cemetery in Huntingdon. I found another this afternoon and was struck by the statue of a small dog at the top of a column. Then I looked at the angel with raised arm on the left of a nearer grave. On the opposite side of the cross, I can just make out another small dog statue, but cannot make out its name. I have had another look and almost thought I can see two dog heads - siamese twins? There is, however, only one pair of front paws dangling over the front of the name plaque. What do you make of it?
